ABOUT ME

”What holds you back is not what you are. It's what you think you aren't.”

GREETINGS EVERYONE,

I am Mrs. Latanya Howard Triggs. I am the wife of the wonderful and gracious Mr. Timothy D.Triggs and the mother of four: Joseph (22), TaTyana (20), Jermiah (19), and Jabari (18). I left my hometown of Greenville (yes I am a DELTA GIRL) and moved to Clinton on October 4, 2014, with my four children, a u-haul full of furniture, $60 in my pocket, no job, and no family within 90 miles. However, what I did have was God, a vision, goals, ambition, desire, and a plan.

After searching and struggling for two months, I finally started working part-time at Kirkland’s in Flowood, Ms. I was at Kirkland’s for only two short months, because my passion is and will always be working with adults. God led me to call Baptist Adult day back in October, but they didn't have any openings at the time. However, I never gave up and I kept my faith. January 16, 2015, I was hired at BAPTIST ADULT DAY as a PRN program assistant. Because of my hard work, dedication, motivation, drive, and the favor of God I am now the Activities Director.

As the activities director, I plan, implement and evaluate activities for my clients who have different types of dementia such as Alzheimer’s. I design programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation, fulfillment and improve their daily living skills. I thank GOD every day for preparing me for what he has prepared for me.

Overall, I am elated to have this opportunity to be your MRS. PLUS AMERICA 2020.

WHY I CHOSE MY PLATFORM

"Alzheimer’s disease (AD), also referred to simply as Alzheimer’s, is a chronic neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and gradually worsens over time. It is the cause of 60-70% of cases of dementia. The most common early symptom is difficulty and remembering recent events. As a person declines they often withdraw from family and society."

As a volunteer raising awareness, I want to help make sure the real needs and concerns of people with Alzheimer's and their carers are addressed.

I will forever raise awareness and concern about Alzheimer’s and move people to take action in the fight against the disease. Alzheimer’s is the only disease with no cure, no treatments to stop, delay or prevent the disease, and no survivors. However, this will change. The first survivor of Alzheimer's IS OUT THERE.

I will never stop asking people to join the movement with me by taking "THE PURPLE PLEDGE"not only because it's my favorite color but because you will be promising to raise awareness for Alzheimer's.

“Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.”
-Benjamin Franklin
