ABOUT ME

MISSISSIPPI (8).png

My name is Jessica Williams and I am a Youth Services Librarian. I am a wife and step mother of two beautiful little ladies. In my free time I enjoy traveling and trying new foods. I also love to read as well as craft. I am also a small business owner. I am overly excited to participate in Mississippi Plus America Pageant!

WHY I CHOSE MY PLATFORM

I chose this specific platform because I remember the story my mom tells me often about me going to school and on the first day I came home in tears because I could not read. My mom worked with me long and hard and I was the first student to successfully read an easy book. Having a solid foundation in early literacy skills is critical to children’s future reading performance. The first three years of a child’s life is when early literacy development begins. The first three years are very important as it supports their future language development, reading, writing, and overall learning. During the pandemic, some children have faced many hurdles, now more than ever. If a child can’t read, a child can’t learn.
